Since it opened in October 1997, the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen near Basel has become one of the top addresses for modern art. Housed in the museum building designed by Renzo Piano, the
Fondation Beyeler presents not only the unparalleled Beyeler Collection, which is the property of the Beyeler-Stiftung, founded in 1982, but also temporary exhibitions of the same high caliber
as any held at major museums around the globe. Moreover, the excellent reputation of the collection, which contains now only key works from the second half of the nineteenth century and
milestones of twentieth-century art but also examples of non-European art from Africa, Alaska, and Oceania, continues to grow with the steady acquisition of important new works.
