Lepore (West Chester University of Pennsylvania) supplies professionals and students with information on aquatics for individuals with emotional, cognitive, and/or physical disabilities. The
text begins with a brief history of adapted aquatics and a review of relevant legislation. The chapters that follow introduce the field of adapted aquatics and describe tools needed to provide
quality instruction. Final chapters supply information for improving programs and referring swimmers to opportunities beyond the instructional realm. Techniques and equipment are illustrated
with about 100 b&w photos, and appendices provide standards, activities, and forms. For this edition, about half of the content has been re-written, with updates on legislation,
architectural accessibility guidelines, and instructional strategies. Chapter-opening scenarios are new, as are chapter objectives, inclusion principles, and additional stroke adaptations. The
text is for university students studying recreation, general or adapted physical education, special education, therapeutic recreation, or allied health fields. It can also be used as a
reference for pool operators. At the time of publication, the book was the required text for the two adapted aquatics instructor credentials in the US: the AAHPERD/AAPAR Adapted Aquatics
Instructor, and the YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor--Individuals with Disabilities. Annotation 穢2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
