Fahey (Latin American studies, Stanford U.) examines six fictional autobiographies by Alina Diacon繳, Manuela Fingueret, Luisa Valenzuela, Sara Sefshovich, Laura Restrepo, and Ana Castillo,
illustrating how these Latina authors portray the psychological affects of historical traumas--a recurring topic is the Argentine Dirty War--and addressing sociocultural issues of politics and
gender in the protagonists' respective countries and temporal settings. She also discusses how Latina literature uses historical traumas to reflect interior pain and struggle and identifies
themes in how the authors confront suffering. Annotation 穢2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
