內容簡介

Following famous designs by Peter Behrens and Mies van der Rohe, the architects of the German Pavilions at the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels sought to create buildings that were open to the outside and on a human scale. The story of their design and short summaries of the careers of the architects--including those of the landscape architect Walter Rossow and of the exhibition programme coordinator Hans Schwippert--are provided by Boyken (architectural history, U. of Konstanz, Germany). Published in a lavishly oversized format--it's 11.25x12"--and filled with superb full-page and two-page b&w plates, including photos of the original plans and models, this volume is a thoughtful exposition of the Pavilions and their architects. The entire text, including captions, is in German and English. Distributed in the US by National Book Network. Annotation 穢2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
