Set in Iraq c. 750 AD, at the dawn of the Abbasid revolution, the poet, wit and radical reformer Ibn Al-Muqaffa is battling against fervent revolutionaries, heretic poets, religious
propagandists and a ruler who names himself none other than 'God's shadow on earth'.
Part history, part political fable, part personal tragedy, this new drama explores the creation of one of the masterpieces of Eastern literature, Kalila wa Dimna or The Mirror for Princes,
through the life of its most important scribe.
Sulayman Al-Bassam's play appeared at the Barbican, London and the Tokyo International Arts Festival, Japan.
