Since its original publication 15 years ago, this collection has become the standard English-language anthology of post-1945 Korean short fiction. For this expanded edition, co-editors and
award-winning translators Bruce and Ju-Chan Fulton have added four new selections. "Scarlet Fingernails" (1987) by Kim Minsuk, and "The Last of Hanak'o" (1992) by Ch'oe Yun, add two important
women's voices to the mix. "Conviction" (2003) by Ch'oe Such'ol, and "From Powder to Powder" (2004) by Kim Hun, extend the anthology's chronological range to the new millennium. This edition
also features a revised introduction, updated headnotes for each piece, repolished translations, and an appended list of further readings. The anthology continues to explore the motif of exile
