Beyond the Dot.Coms: The Economic Promise of the Internet

Co-published with the Internet Policy Institute, and written by two leading economists, this text analyzes the impact of the Internet on ＂old economy＂ sectors such as manufacturing, retail, and trucking. Drawing upon research conducted by the Brookings Institution’s Task Force on the Internet, the authors contend that the Internet will have its most significant impact on the economy through productivity enhancements that lower transaction costs and improve efficiency.
