The investigation of murders committed 60 years ago interweaves the Cuban Revolution with the present day in this novel that is as often mystery as historical fiction. After the remains of
two men are discovered in the church of a village in the mountainous western region of Astoria, the son of one of the men hires a private investigator with the hopes of finding his father's
killer. The investigator, a skeptic who buried his ideals long ago, soon finds himself piecing together the impassioned history of several families, two wars, and a love that transcends the
limits of time.
