Focusing on films released by nonstudio distributors between 1980 and 2001, independent filmmaker Pribram analyzes the discourse, consumption, and genre definition of American independent film.
Institutional practices of independent film industries are explicated and the influences of alternative filmic practices are identified. The appearance of identity politics is analyzed along
with an analysis of independent narrative theory. The films of Quentin Tarantino are given a prominent place in the discussion. Finally, the interactions of institutional, representational,
interpretive, and cultural/historical discursive fields are analyzed. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
