This work reviews about 2,000 songs printed in some 70 anthologies for choir directors and voice teachers of junior-high and high-school students. The directory lists songs by title, composer,
and the anthologies in which they are found, then rates songs as beginning, intermediate, and advanced and gives a detailed description of the vocal demand of each song. Songs are evaluated
according to melodic contour, phrase length, language, rhythm, accompaniment, harmonic language, and dynamics. Hopkin is head of vocal studies at Brigham Young University, where he teaches
studio voice and vocal pedagogy. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
