The eleven-year old protagonist girl incarnates an adventuresome child who sees more than she knows: Amidst twists and turns, in her youthful idyll, the child is attuned to the smart-driving of a horse--a roan named Prisa. Later, when Prisa is lost then reappears, an emphatic force announces nostalgia, and a redemptive optimism; the roan's presence evokes strongly a replaced order, a call to normalcy, and the deepest parts of a family's reappraisal.
