John Wedmore is accused of murdering a fellow servant and thrown into prison. Roger, his half-brother, feels obliged to investigate the charge. When Anthony, an inhabitant of the Manor House is murdered, Roger is convinced that the past and present killings are linked. And if he can prove the connection, his half-brother's name will be cleared.
