This second tale in the series follows the children of Utt as they go down to the lake for a swim. The water parts as they reach the far side of the lake and they see a strange creature that
fills them with dread. They rush back to town to tell Barnaby the mayor and with vivid imaginations recall seeing a fearsome monster. As the story unfolds, young readers learn not to rush to
conclusions and be frightened of things they don't fully understand. The rhyming component in the story provides the musical rhythm children need to increase their vocabulary and improve
their ability to read.
