內容簡介

Solon was a politician who composed poetry that is partly preserved, whose laws the Attic orators could see and quote, and whose deeds were extensively analyzed and recorded by Aristotle. At least until a couple of decades ago. Then scholars started asking questions about the authenticity of the extensive sources. Classicists and historians gathered in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in December 2003 to compare notes on his current status as a poet, lawgiver, and Athenian. Appended are some fragments of his poetry, in Greek with English prose translation. Annotation 穢2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
