Moving North: African Americans And the Great Migration 1915 - 1930

After the Civil War, the great social unrest and unfair laws, such as the Black Codes and Jim Crow laws, left newly freed African-American slaves with little opportunity in their native land--forcing them to venture North to find better lives and places where they could live in peace.
