Using economic theory, Van Praag (economics of organization, U. of Amsterdam, the Netherlands) analyzes the motivation behind becoming an entrepreneur and factors affecting their performance.
In studies of Dutch and US entrepreneurs, she considers human capital and financial variables, risk attitude, psychological and macro-economic variables, as well as the entrepreneurs’
background. She also examines willingness and opportunity, the effects of education on earnings, and capital constraints. Some of the chapters are based on her PhD thesis and have appeared in
