Irish Literature: The Nineteenth Century

The selections cover over four decades from Catholic Emancipation to the first stirrings of the Irish literary renaissance. Rather than trying to encompass all the events and phenomena that might be considered important, they focus on the Famine and the formulation of an Irish cultural identity. The short pieces and excerpts include prose, poetry, essays, and letters. Three volumes are devoted to the 19th century. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
