Determined to escape his old life, Harold Jenks, a drug lord's lieutenant in one of St. Louis's toughest ghettos, swaps identities with a scholarship student headed for Eastern Oklahoma University, where he finds himself the new graduate assistant in the English department and encounters visiting professor Jay Morgan, a man with a dead student in his bed.
