“Unlike so many of his lank, mealy-mouthed contemporaries, John Foy is unafraid to deploy language that is both rhetorically robust and sonically lush. His excellent book reminds us of what
English can do when it is called upon to balance exquisite verbal mastery, emotional immediacy, and abiding intelligence.” —David Yezzi.
