Based on Leith's doctoral thesis for Macquarrie U. (Australia), this work examines the operation of the largest gold mine on earth by the American corporation Freeport-McMoRan. Aided by a cozy
relationship with the Indonesian dictator Suharto and its military, Freeport is found by Leith to be implicated in human rights abuses, massive despoliation of the environment, and other
