Stobart (ethnomusicology, Royal Holloway, U. of London, UK) provides an ethnography of the people of Kalankira, a Quechua-speaking community of northern Potos穩 in the Bolivian Andes. He
explores how music and socio-economic production are connected in the culture. Specifically, he considers how the production of sound relates to other forms of material production, and
describes guitar construction and performance techniques, song performance, the cycle of their musical year, and rituals and musical instruments used. Fieldwork was undertaken beginning in
1991, with a focus in the study on 1991-1992. An audio CD supplements the text. Annotation 穢2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
