A two volume encyclopedia providing description and analysis of subjects and individuals associated with the history of interior design. The alphabetically arranged entries consist of
architects, critics, designers, makers and patrons, room types, decoration and particular furniture. The longer survey articles pertain to individual countries, periods, or styles, although
confined to secular interiors simply because of the enormity of an ecclesiastical inclusion. Surprisingly, there are fewer photographs than one would expect with such a visual subject; However,
the editorial commitment to brevity must account for that limited selection and is, alas, probably for the best decision in terms of reference book criteria. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc.,
