Only Sons explores the ambivalent emotions that make up our social relationships, particularly those that stem from a psychological need to believe in a just world. Central to the
experience of the characters in Only Sons is the complexity of father-son relationships and the manner in which positive as well as negative cultural values and traditions are passed on
from one generation to the next. A native of the Texas-Mexican border region, Gonz獺lez skillfully situates his characters within a border culture that inevitably plays a major role in their
development.
