斯維爾特所著《激光原理》是一部介紹激光基本原理的經典著作。這是第五版,和原來的版本一脈相承,對原來的版本做了必要的補充和修訂,篇幅也擴大了不少。

基於現代理論的發展,該書對於激光器的三大組成部分,即激活物質、泵浦系統與諧振腔的基本概念和基本理論的表述給出了許多更新;大大增加了對各類激光器,特別是最新發展起來的一些激光器的詳細的介紹;進一步深入地闡述了激光束的各種特性和各種可能的變換方法。
