本書旨在探討跨文化交際能力測試的相關問題。本書從描寫國內文化教學與測試現狀入手,介紹了近年來國內外文化測試發展的狀況,並對各種測試方法的形式、特點、優劣及其使用範圍作了較全面的分析。在此基礎上,作者提出了自己的文化測試模式。與此同時,文化測試大綱也相應而生。
本書采用了定性和定量的研究方法。本書通過問卷,調查了高校英語教師對于文化教學與測試的態度與看法,得出以下結論:雖然大多數教師意識到文化教學與測試十分重要,但是在實際教學中還不知如何具體操作;為了了解語言學習者處于跨文化交際能力的哪一階段,本書采用了美國著名的跨文化發展量表,調查結果表明學生對于文化的敏感性還不容樂觀,大部分學生處于跨文化發展量表的初級階段。為了驗證作者設計的文化測試試題的信度與效度,作者在上海外國語大學作了實證研究,將文化測試試題融入到該校二年級學生的期末考試試卷中,獲得719份答卷。為了將文化測試成績與專業四級成績比較,作者又從專業四、八級考試辦公室獲得這批學生的專業四級成績。之後本書彩了F-檢驗,收斂性和區別性證據收集和相關分析等統計手段,證明了文化測試試卷雖然信度較低,但是具有很高的效度和可行性。
